Out With the Old in With NEW

Back in the days of 1940s, there was nun Facebook and nun snapchat. If I was wanted to see beautiful Dorothy May I'd have to hop on my horse and ride down to the general store on 52nd street. She was the beautifullest girl I ever seen, we were gonna be the greatest love story the town had ever seen. Until that darn Smart gadget came out and she started talking to cuter boys than I. Dorothy May could have been my girl but that darn Marc Zucherburg changed the game.

If snapchat, twitter, instagram and facebook were gone forever. I honestly would not mind that. Because social media is not the most important thing in the world to worry about or care about. In fact social media can actually make life worse for certain people if it's not used the right way. And I know that from personal experience. Sometimes taking a long or short break from social media can make a person feel better on the inside. And it allows them to choose something else to do that is much more productive than looking at a screen for hours. If those social media apps were gone then I think it would allow peope to be more open to certain things. You can live without your phone, you might not think it. But believe me it's definiately possible. After a few hours or so without the social media, you'll feel a whole new sensation. If you think you can't live without your phone or those social media apps, then I'm sorry...

Life without social media

Imagine if all social media -- Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, etc. -- shut down. Would that be a good thing or a bad thing? How would it affect your life?

If all social media, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter, all shut down, I feel as if this society would be more focused on their hopes and dreams, and the future that is ahead of them. Social media today and people constantly using their cellular devices are harming the people in our society and community. Most social media websites include others harming or harassing people they may or may not know. If social media were to shut down, I feel as it would be a positive and really helpful thing for many people. Getting rid of social media sites will encourage children, young adults, and adults to pay more attention to the ideas and people in their life that really matter. People in our society today find that posting on social media is far more important than the quality time they actually spent with their loved ones. Some people post and comment on social media often use it to their advantage and disrespect people and have debates. The people behind the screens don't realize how much cyberbulling and intentionally hurting someone online has on someone elses life.

If Social Media was gone it would make some peoples lives better. It will let people be able to talk face to face and not screen to screen. I can live without my phone. I have let my phone die and didn't charge it for 5 days. I didn't die. It made me realize that it's better to have real conversations with people then through a screen. It would be a bad thing to alot of people because people think social media is the only way that they can contact their friends and family. But really it's not. I think a couple of days out of each month it should be shut down. It will make kids realize that there is more to life then just phones, Snapchat, Facebook, and all the other social apps. Without these apps it will be better for me. Or at least that was what I realized when I didn't have my phone.

Social media affects everyone who uses it. It changes the way we feel about ourselves and others whether you know it or not. It can also cause a lot of trouble.

Pretty much the only social media I have is Instagram. I use it pretty much all of the time to chat with my friends or see posts and stuff. Even though it's probably my most used app, I probably wouldn't be mad or sad if it shut down one day. It would be kinda weird to not have it, but it might be for the better. I would get off my phone for a change and do something benificial like doing my homework or exercising. I could spend more time with my family or pets. Who needs social media anyway? I would just call or text my friends to hang out and we could talk instead of take pictures to post.

There is also so much drama that goes on on social media. It would be so easy without it! I bet there would be so much less bullying if there wasn't any social media. It would be kinda nice without it.

If social media was gone. snapchat, instagram, twitter, facebook, vsco. I would die. I would pass out on the side of the street, d e a d. I couldn't suivive without my phone. It's my heart and SOUL!! I couldn't even tweet or snapchat about my food? And what would I do if I couldn't boomerang my computer while watching netflix?! It would be a tradety to socitey. Does anyone realize what terror that would be? I really do not know how I would get out of bed without my phone by my side!! What would keep me going from bed at 4:00 in the afternoon everday, becuase right now that is what my phone does! Anyway, please do not take away social media people! I might literally die. keep social media forever

If they took down snpchat or instagram i think that alot of people would go crazy becasue those are like the main socail media things that people go on to texts send pictures of there faces to each other. Also it would affect my life because i use snapchat alot to get ahold of people faster and to send silly faces to family or friends that i have on there. Plus its a good thing for like photo shoots and all that becasue of all the filters and stuff but now that the new update is there everyone wants it to go back to the way it was before because its just like all messed up and stuff and no one likes it that ive been hearing and how many people post about it saying that they want the old one back. If instagram was gone i think alot of people would also freak out because thats where people post there favorite picutres or make spam account as like to post whatever and no one wants it gone because they like to do that kinda thing. If twiter was gone alot of the famous people wouldnt get as much tweets and none famous people would too. For me i hope they dont shut down any of them because then you cant find new artist that you wanna find or hear.

Benefits and Downsides of Social Media

Submitted by Writer on Thu, 02/15/2018 - 10:11

If social media was shut down, I think people who are users of users of social media would loose a lot of opportunities. We would loose the chance to get to have a conversation with friends, or people we don’t know as well. With social media, you can express creativity and your personality and you can even choose who you want to share it with. It also can help some people express themselves. With some people, who aren’t as good at talking to people in person, or have social anxiety, social media can make it easier for them to talk to others. Even if it isn’t face to face, it can still give people opportunities to talk to people without getting nervous; or anything. It also gives opportunities to meet and talk to some people you haven’t talked to before. People who may be one of your friend’s friends. Or one of your family member’s friends. But on the other hand, some people can get caught up in trying to talk to friends from other school and end up ignoring those around them. To sum it all up, social media can make you ignorant to the world around you, but it can open up opportunities for people to be able to talk to others, and make bonds with people that they don't see often.

So yesterday, I woke up and I checked my notifications. Usually the first thing I do is respond to the Snapchats I got when I was asleep. This time, though, I didn't have any. I was shocked. This never happened, what was going on? This was weird. So I checked my internet, thinking maybe it needed to be restarted. It was working fine. What was happening? I decided to just go on the app anyways to see if my notifications had a problem or something. You won't believe what happened, it told me the app wasn't working! I thought, this has to be a joke. I brushed it off, thinking it would be back up in a few hours. So I made breakfast and sat down, and went on Instagram like I usually do. I couldn't believe it! Instagram wasn't working either! I texted my friends, without any funny video from Instagram or weird picture from Snapchat, so boring. I asked them if their social media was fine. There's was broken too! I couldn't believe it, there was no way we'd lost all social media. Then me and my friends met up in a coffee shop, with internet obviously, and we decided to write a complaint to the people who run Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, etc. While we waited for them to respond we tried everything to make the apps work again. They had too, there was no way they were gone! About a boring, no social media filled hour, we got emails back from all the companies. This was weird, why were all the emails the same? It claimed there was a lawsuit from parents around the US complaining about social media taking over their children. I couldn't believe this! There was no way my parents would do that to me, right? We all decided to call our parents and ask them if they had done this, too. All of our parents said the same thing, your grades are failing, you can't even go an hour without checking Facesnap or Instatweet or whatever it is you do, and you don't even have full conversations unless their on social media! I couldn't handle this, if they had a problem they could talk to me, not take it away from me for good! My friends and I all agreed, if they wanted to talk they could talk. After this discovery, we turned on the news to see if anyone else had this problem. There were kids from everywhere you could think of protesting against social media being banned! We had to help them. So we headed to Montpelier to fight back with other teens from Vermont. The next day, social media was turned back on! The kids had won! Now back to cute cat videos and funny pictures. Oh wait, did I have an essay to write?

If social media wasnt a thing i like that would be fine.  It would be fine because i dont use it a lot.  Most of the time I either call people or text them over Imessage, And even then i dont do that alot.  Lots of people would not want to have it go away.  Some people only use their phone all day and are addicted to them.  Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook creators will lose money because their sites would not be here anymore.  As well as many more would go away. that is a pineapple btw.  lot of people would lose der jobs .  peeple wood lose all der mony.  donald wump woodnt bee abble to twet on twiter anymor  also som peple wood los mileons of phans taht tey hav on the ap, or socal meadia.

Why It Would Be Good For Social Media To Shut Down

Submitted by Writer on Thu, 02/15/2018 - 10:08

I feel like Social Media controls a lot of peoples lives and without it some people couldn't live. My thoughts on social media is that I use it but I'm not addicted and always looking at it. It would be a good thing if Social Media shut down because people could come back into the real world and not always be on there looking on instagram, snapchat, twitter, etc. I know people that are adicted to social media and are always looking on there phones and see what on the web. There cools things about social media too like following you favorite athletes, and stars and seeing what they post. Social media also really affects kids academics time, when kids have homework they always are looking at social media and on there phones because there addicted But it really wouldnt be a big deal if some day all social media shut down. People would definitely live a better and more productive life.  Kids need to go outside again and get off social media.

If Social Media Was Shut Down

Submitted by Writer on Thu, 02/15/2018 - 09:55

If social media was shut down I would be really mad. Social media helps me know what goes on in life and lets me talk to my friends. The bad thing would be that I couldn't talk to anyone unless I knew there number or if I saw them in person. It would affect me because I wouldn't know what goes on everyday with friends and family that I don't see everyday. Also they wouldn't be able to know what goes on in my life everday. I get new on facebook so if it was shut down I wouldn't know what was on the news. On snapchat I wouldn't be able to keep my streaks and talk to my friends and that would really suck because I have some high streaks that i don't wanna lose. On instagram I wouldn't be able to post any pictures which I hardly do but I like to sometimes.

If all of the Social Media "sites" closed down, I think it would be a good thing because it might mean that some people will stop using things like Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and other things. although that could be true, people who spend most of their time on sites like that will probably be in a panick, like "Oh no what am I going to do without Snapchat, where I send weird photos of me to my friends?" or "777uWhat am I going to do without Instagram, where I take photos of the "awsome" things I do?" (like stare at a phone for hours at a time!)

If we did not have social media that would be bad because one i cant contact my family and then if i wanted to gpo somewere then i would have to drive to them and another reason how this would afect my life is that i could not see all of the cool things that are up i would have to go there and see how they do that witch is boring. So those are all of my reasons why my life would be over with out social media. But the good thing about this is that you can still write letters to your family members so you can still talk to them.Never stop trying to get those things back up on the internet.

It would be torcher if there was no internet.  I would not be able to stand it because I could not watch any memes about Tom Brady missing that perfect throw in this years super boul.  Also I could not factime time my freinds or cousins so we could game on some video games.  Or they would not know if I wanted them to come over and skate or play out side.  But it would be good for every body because you would be forced to sleep, go out side, play a board game, Or running to your freinds house to see if there free (if there close). This really could go both ways I think it would be better if the power terned on for a hour then went off for three.

if all schociol media died then a lot of people would not be able to have as much atenchain and not become internet famouse. it would impact peole by they could not be able to share photos, they could not share their life to their fans and a lot of other things. i think that it would be a good thing for a day just to get people off their phones but i dont think it would be a good idea for long term. it would also efect the componey because they would not be making as much money and they would shut down and that would be bad for them and they would not be able to continu their compiny.

Phones vs. Family

Submitted by Writer on Thu, 02/15/2018 - 09:20

If social media for some reason stopped working I think everyone would be upset, because everyone uses technologie in some way. Parents are always on facebook, teens on instagram or snapchat, the point is everyone uses it. Parents rely on social media it keeps the teens busy and kids rely on it, I mean how else are you supposed to talk to people? It's not like you could actually go to your friends house or anything. People would probably scream their heads off for about a day or so, but the next day won't be so bad it actually might be nice to talk to your family see how their day went. People might be grumpy, but family is more important than technologie. My family is on social media a LOT, but we always make time to talk with each other, for example at dinner no phones. BING BING, a phone goes off but my family is eating, so no one moves, no one looks at the phone we just keep eating dinner. I think every family should go a little bit without phones or computers. As i’m writing right now I am using technologie I could be doing this on paper, but i’m not, we need technologie and social media it’s just a part of our lives now. Technologie and social media is as important to us as water and food are, it shouldn't be, but it is. I can’t imagine how older people did not use technologie, it just seems so unrealistic.

If Social Media Shut Down?

If social media were to shut down it wouldn´t be the end of the world, think of it as taking a break off of the internet until it starts working again. In my perspective, it wouldn´t be terrible if social media stopped working it could be nice, you could do all the stuff that you don´t get to do because you're always on social media. It could help you have a more active life than just sitting in front of a screen all day. Having social media shut down it could open up different ideas that you would have never thought of before if it hadn't shut down. Social media isn't that important anyways its just popular apps put together to create a chain of them that kids use 24/7 in their lives. The apps that are called ¨Social Media¨ are apps that are just like messaging and or facetime, in a better more fun way so that kids would enjoy being on them and purchase them from the app store. As more people use social media they start taking away from their normal everyday life, without social media for a day it would open everything that was there but then faided away after you started using social media. Without social media, kids could do anything they want or believe in to live their lives to the fullest, plus make their dreams come true.

We are constley on our phones but yet social media has gotton us to make more friends and have better relationships with people. If I had to choose to keep social media or ditch it i would keep it in a heart beat, only because I would be able to stay in tuch with my friends. If i did keep it i would want to limt my time spent on it because i would admint i spend way to much time on my phone.

Government Shutdown

Submitted by Writer on Thu, 02/15/2018 - 08:26

This is new.

I started off my repeal from the event by doing what any logical teen would do- I clicked my iPhones home button twice and swiped my screen up, getting rid of Snapchat from my app history. And like any other logical teen, I reopened the app, almost rushing to get it running again. But what was illogical about this was that instead of the regular yellow and white screen, adorned with the friendly ghost which has become almost like a dear friend to me, the screen turned black. The white text at the center of the screen looked raw, unnatural.

"USER -------

This is a total government controlled social experiment. For the next 24 hours, all usage of social media is banned and unattainable. Please concern yourself with other manners."

I read it over and over again until the words seemed to blur my vision. Shutdown..? Why on earth would the government need to shut down social media?

My mind flashed back to my mother, repeatedly scolding me for using my phone too much. I would be yelled at constantly for being on it too much- it was unbearable.

A cold breeze moves through the air... all is cold and silent. You start to hear faint screams in the distance. Over the hills, and through the streams. You try to go onto Instagram to what was the matter. Your sacred place, your holy grail where each individual picture is taken and posted with cair, in hopes that you can get many likes and get more followers to see them. When you dainty little finger stretches to touch the screen. With a gentle tap of the glass on the colorful Instagram icon, you can hear the click. The page opens, but instead of seeing all of the photos of last nights party, you find... NOTHING!

if all social media cesed to work and funtion i believe it would have a neagative affect on many thing like directly after the event people would be scambling to find different ways to fix the problem. but most importantly how to comunicate with other people since no one would know what is going on this would most likly cause a mass panic throuout the nation and possibly the goverment as well since many officals use social media to montier different things along with giving out important information to the nation as a whole. but you would also have some people leave their homes trying to figure out whats going on since some individles tend to stay inside use social media. however most likly someone would find something or someone to blame.

" I think you can live without it for a little bit, don't you think." she responded in a calm voice.

" well what am I supose to do in the meantime."

"well we could go to the beach," mom said, " it's the perfect day for a swim."

" well I guess." I mumbled.

once we got to the beach mom made me put my phone in a container so I couldn't check it evert two seconds. it actually wasn't horrible we went in to water with the boogie boards and " rode a wave" and made a huge sand castle, a little to close to the water and it got destroyed. We laugh. A lot.then we had a picnic with my favorite. Balony sandwhiches. it was the best thing ever.

All hell breaks loose in America

Submitted by Writer on Thu, 02/15/2018 - 08:22

If all social media shut down I think people would just freak out or the saying “All hell breaks loose”. That’s what the United States would look like if it shut down. It would probably be the same in other countries too, everyone would freak out and wouldn’t know what to do. Everyone in this society now is all about social media and that’s how they function. I’m also speaking for myself, I’m not saying i’m never on my phone and everyone else is. I’m one of those people who’s on their phone all the time either texting friends on snapchat or on instagram or facebook and other days I could sit and watch netflix all day long, so having a phone can be so addicting. There's always a certain point when I can just put down my phone and not talk to anyone but 99% of the time I will be one snapchat texting my friends. Sometimes phones can create problems and sometimes they make you forget about whatever problems you might have by using different apps. Anyway if all of this social media broke down I think people would just freak out and not know what to do. If people didn’t freak out then it would definitely be a good thing but because people could actually get outside and be active or hang out with their friends without their phones. If people freak out and can’t “keep their cool” without their phones then it wouldn’t be a good thing anymore because people wouldn’t be able to function and “All hell would break loose.” I don’t think anyone would want that to happen because it would just add to the problems that we already have in the United States.
