Turn Around

I get dropped off at school after a baseball game. It’s dark and no one can pick me up. My dad is at work, my mom is at my sisters game and my brother is watching the girls varsity basketball at Harwood. I start walking home. I go past Godfrey Rd. Past the interstate and reach my road off of route 113. Latham Rd. I start walking too my house. I feel my phone vibrate in my pocket after walking for another 5 minutes down my road. Someone is trying to call me. I answer. “Hello?” I say. “Hello?” I say one more time. And finally, someone answers me. “Turn around!” I drop the phone and slowly turn my head, thinking it’s a killer clown or a creepy guy. I turn all the way and there is a dog with his head sticking out of the box. I carry the box to my house. It wasn't much further. I call my parents as soon as I walk inside the door. I told them to hurry up and get home. When they come home they tell me we could keep him. The next day, my parents bring him to the vet and we adopt him.
